Real Time BI - AUSSQL presentation, Melbourne March, 2006
Darren Gosbell presented an interesting session at Melbourne tonight on SQL Server 2005 Analysis Service's Proactive Caching technologies. Despite my professional work mainly being performed in the relational engine side of the SQL Server technology, this session certainly improved my understanding of AS technologies tremendously.
Darren walked through the range of AS caching options & features, but mainly focussed the presentation on the features that allow finer control over SQL 2005 AS's MOLAP sycnchronisation with underlying data sources.
In one demo, he showed how an application can be udating the underlying SQL Server RDBMS data source, resulting in the SQL Server RDBMS "notifying" the AS cache that its source data has changed, prompting a refresh of the cache. In another, he demo'd the AS cach refreshing itself based on a schedule. All very cool stuff & must be a god-send to DBAs who have had to manually refresh AS cubes based on user requests with older SQL Server 2000 technologies.
Great session Darren & thanks for organising & delivering it! (c:
